To succeed today, organizations need to take advantage of information technology in every area of their business. Talent acquisition is no exception. Robust, reliable technology can help recruiters more effectively engage with candidates. According to Aberdeen Group, the user experience is key. It is more important than ever to have friendly and interactive platforms. In terms of talent acquisition, companies that prioritize the candidate experience are more than twice as likely to improve their cost per hire on a year–by-year basis.1 In addition, social capabilities can enable recruiting professionals to use the Internet for job applications, social referrals and video interviewing. Mobile integration also enables users to connect with information where and when they need it. With better tools and insight into people and data, organizations can much more quickly identify talent, match capabilities to market needs, retain the best talent and improve recruiting outcomes. Simply put, rec

Data integration (DI) may be an old technology, but it is far from extinct. Today, rather than being done on a batch basis with internal data, DI has evolved to a point where it needs to be implicit in everyday business operations. Big data – of many types, and from vast sources like the Internet of Things – joins with the rapid growth of emerging technologies to extend beyond the reach of traditional data management software. To stay relevant, data integration needs to work with both indigenous and exogenous sources while operating at different latencies, from real time to streaming. This paper examines how data integration has gotten to this point, how it’s continuing to evolve and how SAS can help organizations keep their approach to DI current.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is rapidly emerging as a core transformational technology of the digital era. The ability to gather data from sensors embedded throughout an enterprise can drive insights and operational efficiencies from the supply chain to the customer. But IoT and Industrial IoT (IIoT) implementations require high degrees of IT/OT convergence - collaboration and integration between information technology and operational technology groups - to succeed. These two groups, however, often have different goals, performance metrics, and perspectives on both the collaboration and the outcome. This SAS/HPE-sponsored paper helps readers get a better understanding of the relationship, either real or perceived, between these two groups. Futurum Research surveyed the state of the relationship between IT and OT teams as it pertains to the design, implementation, and creation of value through IoT technologies.

Operational efficiency and cost savings. Datadriven business insights. Organizational agility and market differentiation. Enterprises in every industry are pursuing such gains, but they cannot be achieved with a fragmented, siloed technology infrastructure. Technological integration doesn’t happen overnight, of course. It takes years of behind-the-scenes teamwork and engineering—backed by decades of expertise, research, and development—to have a broad and lasting impact. This special edition of Unleashing IT highlights the fruits of those labors, showcasing the unparalleled alignment of Microsoft, Cisco, and Intel technologies. In the following pages, you’ll read about the advancement and unique value of integrated solutions, spanning cloud environments, data centers, and management tools. You’ll also hear from organizations that are aking advantage of these converged technologies, including King County, Provincia Net, and Swinburne University.

The key to understanding the evolving role of VoIP is recognizing that it’s a lot more than just another method for making voice calls. Buying VoIP means more than simply replacing your existing phone system with a functionally identical one running over an IP network. In fact, the underlying IP technology makes possible great advances in the convenience and capabilities of phone systems. Most important of these is that it allows the integration of voice calling with multiple other methods of communication. Both sellers and buyers of VoIP products that build their strategies around this reality will fare best.

With a growing number of marketing applications available, marketing teams are struggling to see differences among them. Meanwhile, IT teams are bogged down with development and maintenance requests to migrate or manage the use of multiple platforms already in use. Gartner’s 2016-2017 CMO Spend Survey found that marketing departments are spending 38% of their tech budgets on external development services and cross-charges from internal IT teams. Strategic marketing and IT leaders are looking for ways to streamline technology and eliminate solutions that limit integrations and scalability. It’s important to look at the resources required to maintain the marketing applications you use and compare them to other options available in the marketplace. New digital technology now makes it feasible to integrate process control and SIF within a common automation infrastructure. While this can provide productivity and asset management benefits, if not done correctly, it can also compromise the safety and security of an industrial operation. Cybersecurity and sabotage vulnerability further accentuate the need for securing the safety instrumented system (SIS). Certainly, a common platform approach using similar hardware and software dedicated for control and safety functions, respectively, can provide the potential for cost savings. However, it is widely acknowledged that utilizing separate, independent, and diverse hardware/software for safety and control is the optimal way to protect against potentially catastrophic common cause and systematic design and application errors. Different vendors offer varied degrees of integration and solutions. The question is: how to provide an integrated control and safety solution with advanced functionality and productivity without compromising safety and security? And, where do users draw the line? A third-party (e.g., TÜV) certification of the hardware/software systems to IEC 61508 specifications carries significant advantages, but should this be the only criterion? How does a third-party certificate extend to the plant’s overall assignment of risk reduction credits for all independent protection layers (IPL)? Control system embedded safety logic solvers may actually increase the SIL requirements of the SIF if no credit is allowed for the distributed control system (DCS) as an IPL. Download the white paper to learn more.
