Many midmarket organizations, especially those whose IT budgets and resources are already at capacity, find the hosted or Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model an increasingly attractive approach to security services. According to Forrester Research1, firms are increasingly sourcing SaaS strategically for enterprise-wide deployments that span mission-critical deployments—email, customer support, and financial applications. These issues make IT management difficult, largely because organizations must add mobile capabilities to the already difficult tasks associated with managing conventional messaging and security systems, not to mention other applications. This paper will examine the information security needs of midmarket organizations, and how SaaS security services can help address those needs specific to a distributed workforce. It will also cover the security services provided by MessageLabs, now Symantec Hosted Services.
